question about notifications text meggages

hi to all
iam new to the iphone system. i have been using a droid x for the past 2 years had to upgrade. i really love the iphone 4s so far.
now my question is about notifications. in the setting section under notifications then to messages then to repeat alert. it states that i will be notifited every 2min to the max number that i selected. i have selected to be notified 10x . i have noticed that dont get that every 2min alert like it states . am i doing something wrong
