Probs changing back to simple passcode??? Help????

Please help me my simple passcode became disabled the other day and now I'm havin to put a longer passcode in with letters and numbers I've tried to change it back in my settings but it's grey and not letting me any help much appreciated!

Go to settings>general>passcode lock>and turn on simple passcode.

I have already done this but the option to change back to simple passcode is grey and will not allow me to select it.
I have looked on a friends phone and her option is blue??
Quite new to iPhone so frustrating!!

Hold down the sleep button and home button at the same time for about 8 seconds or until the phone just shuts off aka "Hard Reset"

Thats not 100% correct hold sleep/wake and home buttons UNTIL the apple logo appears then release and let it reboot.
