It says Kona on the back of the car. Kona coffee is grown in Hawaii.

Your Hyundai model is named after the Kona district of the Big Island of Hawaii. It’s the leeward or sheltered side of the island. I live on the opposite windward, more rainy side.
I know that Hyundai originates from South Corea. It‘s nice to learn that my car has a connection to Hawaii.

Heads up: Winter Solstice Sunday, 21st. Aside from it signaling a change in seasons, I also see it as a “photo op.” The sun will be at its furthest point south in its yearly journey. It takes a couple of days to make the turn and start heading north.

For the more ambitious, there’s a photographic technique called analemma. The first example I saw was in Life magazine’s 200 Years of Photography special edition. It seems like today, the favored description of the sun’s year-long path is a “figure eight.” Life magazine’s image was more horizontal and more symmetrical in shape. They described it as resembling the infinity sign, which I like better. You might have to give NG your e-mail to see the linked page, but I’m sure a search for “analemma” will lead to other sources …
