Your Hyundai model is named after the Kona district of the Big Island of Hawaii. It’s the leeward or sheltered side of the island. I live on the opposite windward, more rainy side.A Hawaiian model? That‘s the icing on the cake.

I know that Hyundai originates from South Corea. It‘s nice to learn that my car has a connection to Hawaii.

Heads up: Winter Solstice Sunday, 21st. Aside from it signaling a change in seasons, I also see it as a “photo op.” The sun will be at its furthest point south in its yearly journey. It takes a couple of days to make the turn and start heading north.
For the more ambitious, there’s a photographic technique called analemma. The first example I saw was in Life magazine’s 200 Years of Photography special edition. It seems like today, the favored description of the sun’s year-long path is a “figure eight.” Life magazine’s image was more horizontal and more symmetrical in shape.
