What I need is an expert to talk me through how to unlock and jailbreak my iphone 4. There's so much that goes into this, so many versions, and stuff to go wrong. I need real personal help. I doubt I'll get it. But I'm just putting it out there. I'm on windows live messenger. If anyone can help me out, I would be very grateful.

There are several fine experts here with jail-breaking experience, and hopefully they'll chime in. Personally, I wouldn't JB a perfectly working iPhone, but that's me. I've read too many "stories" about not-so-good JB episodes.

Well here's my problem. I bought an "Unlocked" iPhone on eBay. I'm not sure if it is or isn't unlocked. I have an AT&T sim which I'm borrowing right now, which works. I tried two UK sim cards which I'm not sure would even work here, they both came up as "failed sim". I don't have any other sim cards to test on it. I'm planning on getting a T-Mobile sim soon.

So I'll explain what's gone on so far like this

Bought item on ebay listed as Unlocked iPhone 4. In the listing it had Carrier - Unlocked

iPhone arrives. I put in my borrowed at&t sim, plug it into my laptop. It says "You must restore your iPhone, blah blah blah" I do the ios 5 upgrade.

iPhone seems good. I was looking trough the setting, and noticed in About, it has Network which is set to cingular. And Carrier which is set to AT&T, even without a sim card inserted. I read around a few sites and found that there's no way to find out if your iphone is unlocked, unless you try a different sim.

Here are my issues. I want my iphone to be unlocked so I can use a t-mobile sim. I kind of want this jailbreak so I can have some free apps and what not, but more importantly I want to be able to use the most up to date itunes, and continue to get the new versions. I mention that because I also read on a few sites that I need itunes 10.4 or something. And I want to get rid of the 15mb msg limit included in ios 5.

So here's what I want in order of importance.

my iPhone unlocked to any network, and the ability to use the newest version of iTunes with my iPhone.

Get rid of the 15mb msg limit. I believe the only way is to downgrade from ios 5 at the moment. I understand that it's brand new.

Jailbreak free apps n stuff.

I realise I just repeated the same information twice there, but it was in the interest of clarity.

My modem firmware is 04.11.08.
iPhone 4 32gb (if that's of any importance)

Any help is appreciated.

Cant you just go to a website now and it does it automatically?

Ye I see these sites and stuff. But which of them are for my iPhone's modem firmware, or ios 5. I just want to be really careful. I paid a lot of money for this phone.

What? No help? But you were willing to before... Was it something I said?

I understand you need help, but there are TONS of guides all over the net on how to jailbreak. If it is that important to do it NOW before someone responds.....go to google and look it up.

It is NOT that hard.

If you want your hand held.....don't bother jailbreaking. Remember you cannot brick your phone...so try what you find out......not a big deal.

By updating to iOS5 you ruined your chances of unlocking, the iOS5 baseband is not unlockable with Ultrasn0w or Gevey. You can do a tethered jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9.9b7 but you won't be able to unlock it to use it with an unofficial carrier.

A bit harsh dont you think? I don't think that was necessary.

Are you f-ing serious? You're telling me that I can never unlock this phone? I'm pretty sure you're wrong. I've seen plenty of ios 5 jailbreak guides. Just none for my baseband yet.

Well you can keep looking for a method of unlocking if you don't believe me but you will be wasting your time. As of right now there is absolutely no way to unlock the 04.11.08 baseband. Maybe Gevey will come out with a new SIM that is compatible with this baseband, but as of right now there is no way to unlock it.

The phone was already unlocked when I bought it. I upgraded to ios 5. I had to for the phone to even work. All it did when I turned it on was show the itunes logo with white wire below it. So you're saying by upgrading to ios 5, I have re-locked the phone?

Yeah that was harsh

I was harsh for telling someone to do research on thier own? For telling someone who posted a "hey answer me" type of response hours after he posted something about wanting help?

Whst is funny is I actually gave him good advice:

Reasearch on google and then ask specific questions and that you CANNOT brick an iphone. That should give him the confidence to experiment and try things!

Seriously? Wow.....it's called doing leg work. Look up how to do it on your own. TRY THINGS.....if it doesn't work, come ask, but you cannot seriously except others to do EVERYTHING for you.

There is a GOOD REASON they post alot of sticky's at the top of the forums....to answer questions that EVERYONE asks time and time again.
If that was harsh...you REALLY need to get thicker skin.....
