No Microphone available in NOTES on 4S

I used to be able to dictate in NOTES but all of the sudden the microphone is grayed out? How can I get it back? Thank you.

Do you have an Internet connection? Without it, you won't get the microphone.

The reason you need the Internet connection is that the speech to text processing is not done on the phone, but on remote servers, which then send the processed text back to your phone.
