Most of the rumors circling the Internet predict that Apple is going to release the next generation iPhone sometimes this fall. Now, a batch of freshly leaked images posted by MacRumors, showcase that the so called iPhone 5S might come sporting a new A7 chip and a dual-LED flash.

The pictures are detailed enough so the actual chip model number is perfectly visible – APL0689. This number is quite different from the A6 chip numbers we have been accustomed to so far. An example of an A6 number is APL0598 – so you can see the difference.

The purported iPhone is also going to sport 1GB of Elpida DRAM, the above mentioned dual-LED flash, a main chip identifier of K1A0062. Theories have popped up suggesting that the maker of the “new” chip was actually TSMC and not good old Samsung. This particular piece of information might make a lot of sense in the context where Apple is trying to sever most of its partnerships with Samsung in the mass production of parts sector.

The guys over at MacRumors were astute enough as to determine the exact time when the device shown in the pictures was put together. The date which they came up with is December 2012. This places this prototype somewhere in the same time span as the launch of the iPhone 5. Was Apple already in the experimental phase with its next generation smartphone, while at the same time launching its more recent creation? If we trust the pictures are accurate, it seems so.
