My iPhone4 is hanging

I restored the phone using iTunes and upgraded to 4.2.1 no problem. Jailbroke with greenpoison6.1 and that also went fine.

Loaded Cydia and then it said "creating file system" and has since hung up!!

Resetting just brings the phone to the greenpoison logo during startup and there it hangs

Is there anyway to do a master reset and start afresh??

If you still have the loader app you could try reinstalling cydia. If not restore in iTunes then you can jailbreak again after that...
