iphone 3gs currently jailbroken however I don't know to what extent I somehow lost the CYDIA app the only thing left is winterboard what ever that is, the phone is currently working on my tmobile simcard I don't think it ever had another card in it, was supposed to be new and unlocked when I bought it.
version 3.1.3 (7E18)
modem firmware 05.12.01
model MB702LL

I down loaded R/S 0.9.15b3 and was doing some dry runs and when I hit restore IPSW it says this version only restores firmware of 4.0 or higher
so i tried 0.9.12b1 and it says restoring for this IPSW isn't currently available.
So now my question is do I plug the phone into itunes and let it update to current firmware?
Thanks in advance

Download the iOS 6.0.1 IPSW for the 3GS, put your iPhone into DFU mode, then shift+click Restore on iTunes and point it to the iOS 6.0.1 IPSW that you donwloaded.

here is where I am getting confused do I use this iPhone 3GS: 6.0.1, 6.0 which is iphone2.1_6.0_10A523

OR this and go over to the 3.1.3 which is my current version

iPhone 3GS: 5.1.1, 5.1, 5.0.1, 5.0, 4.3.5, 4.3.4, 4.3.3, 4.3.2, 4.3.1, 4.3, 4.2.1, 4.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.1, 4.0, 3.1.3, 3.1.2, 3.1, 3.0.1, 3.0

3.1.3 has next to 0 support for most apps on the market now. App now require a minimum of iOS 4, and 90% of apps will require iOS 5 or above to run. Since you do have the blobs for the golden iOS 5 iOS's (5.0.1 and 5.1.1), I suggest upgrading to either of those iOS's using your SHSH blobs, then perform an untethered jailbreak.

things are becoming a little clearer I will definitely take a look at your suggestion.
On another note do those on-line pay unlockers work?

That depends. It's recommended that you buy an unlock from ApplenBerry. They're recommended and trustworthy
