Can both of them be used to jailbreak 4.0.1?

if yes, do both of them save the shsh automatically?

I have a guy with 4.0.1 who has it stuck in DFU and it was jailbroken before, but he doesn't remeber with what software he said either limera1n or blackra1n. I doubt he saved shsh himself.
