Why doesn't the 4S support Java?

It currently supports JavaScript in the Safari Browser.
To support "true" Java, it would need a JRE. That would provide people with a way to circumvent the App market which would impact Apple's 30% cut of all apps sold. And the odds of that happening are zero.
To be blunt, the fact that Apple is going to support HTML5 is amazing considering you will be able to write games with it.

You really should switch to Android with your hatred of the iOS platform philosophy and it's founder.
Apple already supports a very powerful and free app distribution and development method using what are known as apps.
HTML 5 will make this even moreover full, while not owning up the device to the security sides of allowing JAR files, or the performance nightmare of Flash.

And Jobs hated Flash with a passion.

And this is yet another reason why you shouldn't ditch your laptop because an iPad 3 came out and there so marvellous no one needs a laptop any more....yes we do because iPads/ iPhones don't allow us to watch videos etc or certain websites that use flash can't be viewed! One reason why I couldn't care less how many iPads come out!

I will admit the only computer language I know is XHTML , but we all know how easy it is to buy things online with a credit card though. This would indicate a fairly sophisticated ability to deal with PHP. The only thing major that comes to mind about not having java script, is that you will miss out on some cool graphics.
