Jail broken 3GS help with restore

Hey I jailbroke my 3GS and I want to restore and rejailbreak do to it not letting me use Cydia and when I go to iTunes on my Mac i have to update to 5.11 before restoring so I do that get to where it says installing new software then I get a error message every time. What can I do any help will be appreciated.

You restore it and failed? did you download that alreadyhe software? if so when updating it connects to internet and check your iphone. sometimes it fails. same for me. do it again a couple of times. if the error occurs when your downloading your firmware tru itunes. try downloading the firmware in other sites. the in itunes click restore together with shift key and browse the firmware. it connects again to the internet. if it gets error again try again. i have a friend who i update to 5.0.1 but it gets error and failed to update. dont know why. its 3GS and i give up upgrading it
