I don't know about over there in the states but here in the UK there seems to be a lot of confusion about how to pronounce the new iPhones name.
It IS pronounced iPhone Ten.....

I'd consider the iPhone X naming to be a one off for the 10th anniversary iPhone. I wouldn't be surprised to see an iPhone 8S next year as well as an updated iPhone X.

It is called the 10 because Samsung skipped a number and went from Note 5 to Note 7 then jumped to 8 when they failed twice, so Apple figured they would skip a number too but NEVER failed...lol
