Hi

Been reading quite a lot of useful info in this forum but couldn't find anything on what I was looking for, which is basically whether it's worth the hassle of updating an already jailbroken ios6.1 to ios 6.1.2 and re-jailbreaking?

Is it simply a case of backing up the iphone and then updating and jailbreaking again or should I just not bother and keep what i have?

Apologies if this has already been asked...

If you device is running fine as is, why upgrade. There's no mandate that says you have to update to the latest jailbreakable iOS. If it ain't broke don't fix it

This advice is fully endorsed by me! Don't update if its working fine.

I look at it like this, it's good to be updated on the latest software while still jailbreakable, it never hurts

It does hurt when after the "upgrade" your battery life goes south.

I'm another advocate for always upgrade to the latest jailbreakable firmware. I like to keep my devices as up to date as possible.

I wish I hadn't upgraded to 6.1.2! Anyway you are being sensible by staying on 6.1 and 5.1.1 yourself. I would recommend you stay there.

Battery issues are not always firmware related. Unless you set the device up as a new phone(not restore from backup) you can't be sure that the abnormal battery drain is due to the firmware. I have been using 6.1.2 since day 1 of the public release and my battery life is just fine.

Is this a proper comparison. Same number of calls same emails same videos same web surfing same games etc ?

Yes in my opinion. No calls at all (I am in a no service area). No games or videos. Just emails and Internet. And music. I kept the usage the same for close to A:B comparison.

I am not 100 % sure. But maybe 95% sure that its the firmware. Because I did not install any new apps between the two firmwares. Or change any settings. I am now scrambling around switching off notifications and push and fetch and switching on airplane mode to try and approach the old performance.

I have noticed that the battery drains even when in standby/sleep mode. This wasn't happening before. The only apps in the background are safari, mail, music and ipf. So I am still very puzzled.

Get syslog on your device and see what's going on. There might be something looping in your device.
