New to smartphones in general and first iPhone. Do you guys keep yours on 24/7 or turn it off at night. I've always have turned off my cellphones overnight - just curious.

Thanks,
Harvey

I'm on Verizon and have done all the temp fixes - I don't seem to have the battery issue, I use only about .5% per hour when on standby. I do not have to charge it every night, but I've only had the phone a few days.

If you hold the on/off button down, a slider will eventually appear whereby you can turn off the phone.

Lots of threads on this, but basically turn off certain location services (i.e., Set Time Zone, iADs see link below). However, FWIW, the battery problem needs to be fixed with a software update (in the works). Also, forgot to mention that I have also reduced my screen brightness to around 50% (maybe a little less).

I have had smartphones for the last 3 years. The whole reason for having a smartphone is to have it on and "connected" 24/7. Since I've had the iPhone 4s - yeah, left it on all the time. I've never had any of these battery problems that people talk about, nor has my family (with new 4s's), or any of my co-workers......

This phone has the greatest standby battery retention than any smartphone I've ever had. I'm amazed.

I'm getting my 4S in about 2 weeks. My fiancée has had hers for about 3 weeks, and she doesn't have any of the battery issues. Last week she went about two days without having to charge her phone. I can't get through a single day at work without a charge... Granted, I have a Moto Droid (Gen 1), so that's why I have crappy battery life.

To get back to your original question, I personally turn my iPhones OFF every night before bedtime -- for about 9 hours. This way, they get a new bootup every day. Plus, I have this insane idea that keeping an electronic item on for many hours when not in use is just "not right." But I suppose always-on works for many people, so..... whatever works for you!!

I keep mine on 24/7 and charge it every night. I mean, why NOT charge it? Anyway, I guess I am in the unusual circumstance that everyone I meet IN PERSON who owns a 4s (quite a few so far) are all having the "battery issues" - in fact I have yet to talk (in person) to a single iphone 4s owner who even knows someone who is NOT having battery issues. So, in my admittedly limited sampling, everyone who is not having battery issues seems to be here at this forum lol.

All that said, I have had smart phones for many years now, and I always leave them on 24/7, and charge them every night (if I can start the day with a full charge, I just feel better for some reason). But some people turn theirs off at night - and others only charge every other day or something like that. Smartphones are great, and their use will vary greatly from user to user.

Take care,
Rob

I'm another 24/7 user. My iPhone 4S is my only 'phone so I can't turn it off.

Like others, I pop it into a charging stand, actually a dual charging stand that holds my iPhone and iPad side-by-side, every night as I go to bed. By making it a habit there's less chance that I'll have forgotten to charge it when it really needs it.

Also, the type of battery used in iDevices is not harmed by this nightly charging so there's nothing to gain by not keeping them both topped up.

I leave mine on 24/7 I use about 50% battery everyday, so i charge it every night. I could probably get by the next day with out charging but if i happen to use it more then i wouldn't have the charge there for the end of the day.
