iPhone startup issues

A month ago, a bit of water spilled in my backpack while my Verizon iPhone 4 was inside it. The iPhone got wet and I left it out to dry.

I haven't touched it much since, but now, it will only turn on when it is plugged in to a power source, and it only stays on for a couple minutes before it displays a striated screen and shuts down. If it is plugged in to my computer, the startup screen with the Apple logo will boot up for a few seconds before it dies down and restarts. If nothing is plugged in, nothing will happen when I try to turn it on.

Can someone shed light on why this is happening and what I can do to fix my iPhone?

Don't think there is much you can do, I had a rain drop go down the headphone socket, as I had only one water sensor activated, apple changed it, looks like its an insurance claim ( if you have insurance )

is it possible that the water slip inside your phone into the logic board or somewhere that went wrong?
