iPhone Contact Notes

I have an iPhone 3GS. Since upgrading to 4.1 I'm finding that all the notes in my contacts aren't downloading on my phone. I actually save a lot of info in the notes section for each contact so I'm really missing it. Can anyone help me figure out why it started to do that and if there's anything I can do?

i find its always best to do upgrades instead of restoring the phone that way everything stays the same.
