You don't expect it to be a big number at all, but you still might be surprised to know just how little it will cost you to charger your new iPhone 6 and/or iPhone 6 Plus this year. According to an analysis by Opower’s Barry Fischer, the new iPhone 6 will use 10.5 watt-hours of electricity to fully charge over.

Based upon the U.S. national average of 12.29 cents per kilowatt-hour, and extrapolating that over a year's time you get about 3.8 kilowatt-hours in total, which will cost consumers a whopping $0.47 to charge the iPhone 6 and $0.52 for the iPhone 6 Plus. Wow! Who knew the cost of ownership was so... low!

The above chart shows the iPhone 6 compares to several other popular high-tech devices in total yearly energy use.

The folks at Opower snarkily added,

"The iPhone 6 Plus may bend in your pocket, but it won’t bend your energy bill higher."
