iPhone 5c compatible with Virgin Mobile?

I have the opportunity to buy a 5c from a friend that used it with her Verizon account. It is unlocked and has a SIM card space. Can I buy a new SIM card and use the phone with my Virgin Mobile account. I would be transferring my account, not starting a new one.
