Hi, there. i have problem with my iphone 4. i changed my htc desire hd to iphone 4, but seller said, that i need to unlock the phone ( he said o2 UK ), i went to specialists and they said, that i can only unlock it factory ( no gevey, no cheap unlock ). Ok, it costs 50ls ( 100$ ). But after 2 weeks i got call, that my phone isnt bought in o2 uk carrier, but in UK 3 (three), and now it costs 100ls ( 200$ ). What to do? modem version is 04.11.08, carrier is UK three and ios 6. I don't want to buy thath factory unlock for 100ls ( 200$ ). Whats the best idee?

sorry for bad english, im from Latvia. please help me.

For any basebands above 04.10.01, you'll need a factory/IMEI unlock to unlock the device. Or, you can swap out the baseband chipset for one that has an older baseband on it and unlock it using the older baseband. It costs less but is a more tedious process but it's guaranteed to work as long as your baseband chipset is the proper one. It's really in the grey area so I'm not entirely sure how the mods/admins view it so I'll leave it at that for now for an input before I go really in depth.

When a phone is blocked in one country by the Network provider we can assume it's done for legal reasons ie stolen etc ...companies that deal in changing boards out for a price cannot guarantee that the board is NOT blacklisted, but by selling the boards to other countries the board becomes functional again...bypassing any blacklist/blocked. This is a GREY area @Willerz2 please DON'T elaborate on the subject...

The good news is, next year all of the major US cellular providers will be black listing all phones from all networks. It is something that should have been done 5 years ago. But better late than never. And here is to hoping that this new list cuts down on phone theft since they won't be able to use it here anymore $beer.gif

That's definitely a good sign. Thieves can't profit off of the original buyer's forgetfulness or unawareness. That should tone down a huge portion of the blackmarket iPhones being sold and refurbished by unauthorized parties for reselling.

There are of course people who loose their iPhone or other cellular device from their own fault. In that case, if phones are not claimed you ARE entitled to keep the property after a certain amount of days and if you followed the legal system. What about people in this instance who want to use the phone since no one claimed it? Are they also thieves? These services are offered thinking about the best intentions and legal terms, not for the people who steal phones to make money. You can't cut off everyone just because a group of people are actual thieves.

Ok, i dont understand you guys, because my enlgish ir very bad. ;D the thing is, that my stepmom bought this phone in UK and sent to me in my birthday. The phone is not stolen and the imei is not blocked. So the only problem is that, the phone is in 3 UK carrier. So, can i somhow unlock the phone to all carriers? anyhow, with geveys, ultra sims and things like that. modem- 04.11.08, carrier - 3 UK , ios - i can downgrade ios version to all versions that works on iphone 4.

There are reputable dealers on eBay if you look them up. Just find a price you are comfortable with and google the seller to see if they are legitimized.

You'd have to find one for the carrier that the iPhone is originally for. If your iPhone is on 3 network, you'll need it for 3 network unless the iPhone is AT&T based and you're unlocking it in the US before bringing it back abroad
