Is this possible ? I am rather confused, itvlooks like it is out there but when i read up on it it looks like only iphone4s and 5 can anyone clarify for me please, thx, appreciated.

There is currently no untethered jb for ios 6. There is only tethered jb available for 6.0.1, and only for pre-A5 devices. The untethered for 6.0.1 is currently only available for iphone 3gs with old bootrom.

And a selective bunch of new bootrom.

The Dev-Team blog says nothing about "a selective bunch of new bootrom" devices being able to achieve an untethered jailbreak on 6.x.x.....,, I always understood that only Old Bootrom devices can achieve an untethered jailbreak... ?

Yeah... I'm not on the up & up w/ this "selective bunch" either. A little more info, Jon?

What Jon mention about the "selective bunch" might be true. Last 2 weeks i jailbroke my iphone4 on 6.0.1, the first time i reboot it, it works like an untethered, everything works, but the second time i reboot, it needs to be boot tethered because the phone keeps restarting non-stop by itself. And now im running on stock 6.0.1 since i cannot use mobile banking on jb-ken devices.

Understand we're talking about iPhone 3GS only with either old or new bootrom...

I have an iPhone 5 on ios 6.1 beta 4 should I go back to 6.0.2 stock for the jailbreak or stay on the beta and see if it works on that

6.1 won't be jailbroken anytime soon....

6.x.x firmware has better chance of being jailbroken....

Old bootroms were termed for 2009 39th week (XX939XX...), and new bootroms are officially 2009 45th week (XX945XX...). 40-44 are still MC models, but are vulnerable to the 24kpwn exploit.

Ok... so there IS a slight overlap.

Yup. But within those 5 weeks, your device is basically in limbo. You'll have to double check that it the iPhone 3GS does not have the iBoot-359.3.2 bootrom, which is what we term as 'new bootrom'. But in most cases, your device will say MC on it, just that it'll still have the old bootrom installed.

And a selective bunch of new bootrom.

This statement is still wrong....for clarity it should read " And a selective bunch of 3GS identified as new bootrom but in actuality have an Old Bootrom installed" as the 24kpwn exploit will only work on an Old Bootrom device.... that why I recommend the use of iDetector to identify which version of bootrom is installed

Like they said, the only untethered jailbreak you could currently get is the Old Bootrom of the 3GS, meaning older than the 39th week of 2009, you could identify that in your Serial Number and it's usually the 3-5 digit of your serial (XX939). If you have the digits 135 in your serial you are defiantly on an Old Bootrom, anything above that is defiantly an MC Model which is the new Bootrom. You can currently jailbreak your iPhone 4 tethered using Redsn0w with the correct IPSW for iOS 6 (NOTE:Redsn0w will not recognize the iOS 6.0.1 IPSW so download the iOS 6.0 one for your iPhone 4 and that's how you could jailbreak tethered), you could also jailbreak SEMI-Tethered which basically needs a computer for rebooting, it will also require a computer/mac to launch the mail application and the safari application last but not least it will also require a MAC/Computer for the Cydia application.

Many Thanks,
Software
