I had the same problem upgrading my phone. My phone went blank and later I could not do a re-store. I called the Apple and they told me the servers failed due to the amount of people downloanding IOS 5. They told me to keep and trying, that they were close to fixing the problem. That is exactcly what I did and now my phone is downloading my previous application. I don't know if it is doing my previous back or the actual new OS. I can't tell because it is being worked on as I am typing here. I will let you guys know.
