MacRumors reports today on an article on TechCrunch that says that it has heard from sources that iOS 5, which is not due until Fall, will be based heavily on voice control and “deeply integrated” artificial intelligence. According to the sources, Apple’s acquisition of personal assistant software developer Siri back in April 2010 plays a significant part in Apple’s plans for iOS 5, along with Siri’s personnel and technology. In particular, Siri’s use of artificial intelligence and assistance will be a big part of iOS 5. Siri was originally an app for the iPhone, and you can see exactly what it does in the demo video above. If this was to be fully integrated into iOS 5, the voice recognition would have to be spot on though, as that’s what the whole system stands or falls on, you’d imagine. You'd also hope it would be optional, and that you'd have the choice not to use voice control if you didn't want to.

The sources go on to say that many of these elements will be demoed at Apple’s forthcoming WWDC in June 2011.
