Installing a k12 email account on new iphone 6

My wife just got an iphone 6 and was told she could transfer her k12 work email account to the iphone.
She installed it on her phone, contacts come up, but no email is coming through, nor can she send emails.
She received a server error message.

Did she set up the account as Exchange account?
Usually, it's just necessary to enter email address and password, a server shouldn't be required, if everything was entered correctly.
A solution would be to remove the email account from the iPhone, and then set it up again. If it's still getting a server error, she should ask for the correct settings, in case she didn't yet.
