I'm new and I need advice.

Hey guys,
I'm qarrl and I am new to the Apple scene!
I want to get myself an iPhone 4 pretty soon, and that's where my question kicks in:
So, I want to buy a used iPhone 4, but I also want/need to unlock it.
What do I need to pay attention to and what does it need to have when it comes to iOS or baseband or IPSW?

Sorry, there's so much you need to look for and I feel kinda overwhelmed, would be awesome if you guys could help me out on this one.

Only the gsm iPhone 4 can be unlocked. If the firmware is iOS 5 you're out of luck. If it has anything else jailbreak the device and use a gevey sim.

What if I plan on using a software unlock, what do I need to consider for that?

It must have baseband version 1.59.00 for ultrasnow (software unlock) to work...
