ok so my i4 was one of the first ones out there, imported from england. i got it unlocked and jailbroken for my home network in slovakia,

but about 6 months ago i screwed it up of course.. :(

i installed a new firmware, i believe it is 5.0.1

now i can't activate it, can't unlock, can't jailbreak ..i didn't want to pay for the unlock so i just decided to wait for some time if it can't be done somehow.

.. what i learned so far - my i4 has to have the unlockable baseband because it was already unlocked and jailbroken before, so that should be no problem..

i need to activate it first somehow - hacktivate? - my problem is, as now it still has 5.0.1 - which apparently is no longer supported, how can i find a custom firmware 5.0.1 to do this? or can i just hacktivate with 5.1?

unlock comes after hacktivate and jailbreak right?

sorry if i'm not clear enough, i have watched too many youtube tutorials and am completely confused.

if you could help that would be great :) thanx

Hi, welcome to iPhoneForums. I'm Jon.

Please take some time to peruse the IPF Rules
: iPhoneForums.net Forum Rules - Please Read and Respect our Rules

Here are some guides that may suit your needs.
iPhone Tips & Tricks | What is jailbreaking? | Thinking of Jailbreaking but are not sure |Can I Jailbreak my iPhone on this iOS/Jailbreak Status Thread

My particular field of expertise is iOS Jailbreaking and Unlocking.

Your previous unlock was either an UltraSn0w unlock or a backdoor unlock. Now that you've upgraded your iOS, you won't be able to use UltraSn0w anymore and we do not support backdoor unlocks here on iPhoneForums. Your best option is to buy a permanent IMEI unlock online for about 30 dollars or so and unlock your device permanently. Even if you hacktivate the device, you won't be able to use it since you need it to be unlocked in order to use a non-native carrier.

Connect to iTunes through your PC and upgrade iOS. You will need redsn0w 0.9.15b3! Do this at your own risk, I am not responsible for your device! You will also need the iOS 6.0 firmware!

Redsn0w 0.9.15b3:
Click here to download it for Windows
Click here to download it for Mac

iOS 6.0 Firmware:
You will find firmware on this thread.

Now Jailbreak it on 6.0.1 Tethered, now use this thread to downgrade to 5.1.1 (so you can have an untethered jailbreak).

Many thanks,
Software

thank you for your reply software.

first of all, i would never blame some online forum member of damage on my device.

My problem now is, that when I connect the phone, I can't upgrade the fw. Itunes detects an iphone, however there is no button active onscreen and everything is blank. - do i need redsn0w even for the first iOS upgrade? Or do I have some other, bigger problem?

Is your iP4 in a state where you can view Settings>General>About... and let us know what "Version" and "Modem Firmware" is listed?

i wish it was.. nope, the only thing i can do is select the language, and start activating, that means either connect to my wifi - in which case it tells me to insert a valid sim card (the british o2) or to connect via itunes - this does nothing as i said, if i insert a different sim itunes tells me to insert the valid sim, and with no sim at all no message at all..

after that i can start over, do an emergency call or go to wifi selection menu

the only info i can get is my imei number

Try using RedSn0w to identify your device. It should be Extras > Even More > Identify.

Once you've done what Jon (Willerz2) said, then jailbreak your device, I've included firmware & Redsn0w links, then go onto the topic that I showed you and downgrade, for an unlock you'll have to put it onto the iPad baseband and download Ultrasn0w.

Many Thanks,
Software

did that, now what info do you need to see? i guess baseband info?

You're on baseband 04.12.01. This baseband is only unlockable using an IMEI unlock. Is that the only bit of text that's present on the screen? If possible, copy and paste it all here and see if we can identify the iOS.

You don't need to activate it download "iExplorer" go into root and then into Applications and just delete the "setup.app" then the activation screen will be deleted, go into the Ultrasn0w repo and download Ultrasn0w, bang on! (iExplorer requires iTunes).

iExplorer:
Click here to download iExplorer for Mac!
Click here to download iExplorer for Windows!

Many thanks,

He's on an iPhone 4. Even if he deleted it, he wouldn't be able to keep the hacktivation open.

this is the whole text. btw., the english o2 offers official unlocks for 15pounds (about 23 US dollars), i'm wondering if it's not more efficient that way.. but i jailbreak all my iphones for several years now, didn't know an unlock will pose this many problems.

iPhone 4 GSM on iOS 5.1.1 baseband 04.12.01

If your carrier offers an unlock for that kind of a price, definitely go for it considering it's about a half if not a third of the price online. Those unlocks are permanent as opposed to the one that you had on your device prior to upgrading the iOS.

I agree with Jon, you should just purchase an IMEI unlock with O2.

Many thanks,
