Wireless provider? Are you unable to send, receive, or both? Is iMessage working w/ other iDevices?
My carrier is AIRTEL (India). I am able to send SMS to other non iPhone users but not getting any SMS on my iPhone. iMessage is showing as "Waiting for Activation"

Is Airtel in India a native iPhone wireless provider... or are you using an Unlocked iPhone 5 on their service?

I have the same problem. I bought iPhone 5, factory Unlocked in USA 2 weeks ago. Got the new nano-SIM card from Airtel, India.
After activation, everything works fine except that i cannot receive SMS from anyone (though i can send SMSs without trouble).
Will appreciate anyone helping me?

This problem is specific to AIRTEL. Once you change your SIM to nano-SIM card from Airtel, they are surprisingly blocking all incoming SMS on the pretext of documentation verification. I changed the SIM in my iPhone from post-paid to pre-paid and every thing started working including receiving SMS. My old SIM was having issue with SMS even on my Nokia handset. After few visits and warning/shouting at their customer executive the SMS service was started after 5 days.
I am still using pre-paid SIM on my iPhone which is working fine.
