Help! my new iphone 4S is always power off, it happens so often, which really got me mad. what can i do? with the dead battery, my iPhone is just useless, what can I do? Maybe I should get some backup powers, any suggestion?

If it's jailbreaked, factory restore it and use it stock for a while to see if the battery will died again? if yes then take it to Apple store, iPhone 4S right? you are still having your warranty so use it.

Is it shutting off because the battery is depleted, or does it shut off with good remaining battery?

Usually it has to do with a corrupted file or app that has not been backgrounded right. If it has been charged and it's consuming the whole baterry trya hard reset then a full charge first.
After that wait about 1 our and go to usage and see if you have any usage.
Its a good thing going to location settings then advanced and turn off time zone location.
