help 3gs update

Hey my frnd has iphone 3gs with 4.0.4 with new bootrom .. it is currently jailbroken at above mentioned ios
and most of the new apps need atleast 4.3 i thnk to run apps
so he requested me to update to some higher version of ios and jailbreak it .

when i searched around i read about shsh blobs .
my frnd dont have any blobs as he is tech illiterate
can u guide me is there any way to extract these blobs now and how to use them to update and jailbreak the ios to iphone 3gs
please guide

Open up Cydia on his 3GS. At the top, look at the main screen and look for "iOS" an see what's listed. Those are the blobs that Cydia has saved and can be used

Actually my friend live far off from city so it will not be feasible to call him up here at my place for seeing blobs only.
By the way, i have idea of what you are talking about. Visiting cydia and then looking up at silver line at top of cydia most probably by the name of SHSH. right ?
then what. what that number tells ?

On the top of the Cydia main page on the device, that list of iOS's are the iOS's that your friend can upgrade. If iOS 5.1.1 is listed there, your friend can upgrade to that, etc etc. If there's nothing on the top, your only option is iOS 6.1, which is the latest.

okay. i have heard that new jailbreak for ios 6 is launched by evasi0n. What if i simply update 3gs to ios 6.x and then run the software , is it allright ?
do i need the shsh blobs even then ?
and will following evasion tutorial have any consequences ?

If you update to iOS 6.1, you won't need blobs. All you'll need to do is restore to iOS 6.1 using iTunes, plug it into your computer, run Evasi0n, and click Jailbreak once it's ungreyed.

okay so what you are saying is that i have to download ios 6.1, update the iphone 3GS and run evasion.
does it have any implications on baseband.
are there any chances that it will lock the phne after update ?

If you're on the iPhone 3GS on the old baseband you shouldn't have any problems with unlocking a device using ultrasnow. If it's a new baseband you have to preserve your baseband since the iPad baseband not flashable and you would have to preserve to baseband using a custom IPSW from RedSn0w

i think my friend has 6.15.00 baseband on his 3gs.
what additional i will have to perform to preserve it.

Download the iOS 6.1 IPSW for the 3GS, go to RedSn0w > Extras > Custom IPSW. Select the IPSW, let RedSn0w build the new IPSW. Restore using the NEW IPSW that was created, with the header "No_BB". Once you're updated to iOS 6.1, you baseband will still be 06.15.00. Jailbreak it using Evasi0n, unlock it using UltraSn0w, install UltraSn0w Fixer for iOS 6.

When you create a custom IPSW to preserve the baseband, a new IPSW is made in the same directory as the original, except that it says "No_BB_iPhone3,1_5.1.1......" instead of just "iPhone3,1_5.1.1...." for example. The No_BB one is the one that you'll need to use to preserve your baseband. If you still can't figure it out, you'll have to give me a few hours to get home to make a short clip or something. Or, I can use TeamViewer to restore the device for you, provided that you do the manually required procedures such as DFU mode and such when restoring it

i have got you there on many points .. im pretty much cleard. can u just provide me links of tutorials that i need to follow to perform the whole operation.
i mean online tutorials written by different personals.

BTW i think to update iphone 3gs to 6.1 need blobs. isnt it ?

iOS 6.1 is the latest iOS, meaning you do not need blobs. If you want to restore to iOS 6.0.1 on the other hand, then you'll need blobs. There are many tutorials out there, which you'll have to research on your own since there aren't any tutorials that are posted or created on sites that does not support piracy or refer to piracy methods, therefore, I cannot post them directly. And most tutorials will not provide pictures for creating a custom IPSW, because all you do, is download an IPSW, select it in RedSn0w to create a new IPSW file, and you'll simply use that, which is not hard
