Grey box that says JPG in camera roll.

Today, I took a series of photos that upon taking them, seemed to be able to be viewed just fine. Later on in the day, my phone locked up and required a restart (holding down the power and home buttons). Upon going back to my camera roll some time later, the photos that I took today were replaced with this:



Is there any way to get my actual photos back, or are they gone for good? I have since tried plugging my iPhone into my laptop, but there is no change. Any help would be appreciated!
