AppleInsider reports today that factory-unlocked iPhone 5s have been spotted hiding on Apple’s website. Eagle-eyed AppleInsider reader Dhaval Dinani searched for factory-unlocked iPhone 5s via the website’s search engine, and found as a result of his search pricing details for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, at $649, $749, and $849 respectively. While there is no guarantee that these are not just placeholder details, the prices are apparently the same as iPhone 5s that are sold in Canada, where the iPhones are all unlocked. AppleInsider notes that it is generally thought that Apple will eventually offer unlocked iPhone 5s when it has finished launching the iPhone 5 around the world, and when supply settles down. AppleInsider notes that in the mean time, the CDMA version of the Verizon iPhone 5 is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile’s GSM networks, and the AT&T iPhone 5 can be unlocked for use on T-Mobile by resetting it in iTunes and replacing the nano-Sim card.

It can be simply purchased either version at the unsubsidized price and they will come unlocked

we are lucky in the UK,iPhones are sold unlocked from day one.

That is 100% incorrect. Verizon is the only cellular provider, so far, that has to legally leave the CDMA/GSM non-LTE side of the phone unlocked. All other carriers at present can lock their iPhones. And if it isn't already locked, most are, it can be locked at a moments notice by the carrier and there is nothing the end user can do about it legally.
