AppleInsider reports today that Facebook has soft-launched its new iOS “Work” app, which is designed to enable employers to have their own private social networks that employees can use.

Work is very similar to the full Facebook service in terms of its look and how you use it, with the exception being that the employer can create and control accounts.

While the desktop version of the app has a degree of crossover with the main Facebook app, the iOS version is completely separate from the main Facebook app.

And if all that sounds like a brilliant idea to you and you want your firm to start using it right away, then unfortunately you’ll have to wait a little longer, as currently the app is only available as a limited beta trial that focuses on companies with 100 or more employees. No word as yet on the full release date.

AppleInsider says that the Facebook at Work app will be free to download at launch.
