Extra sensor

Wife just got iPhone 5 and her's has what appears to be a sensor below front camera and next to speaker.

Mine doesn't have this. What is it??

That's the proximity sensor, which turns off the display when you hold the phone up to your ear. What colour is your phone? This sensor is virtually invisible on a black iPhone 5.

That makes sense my is black and can't see it. Wife's is white and it does show.
