I guess that Droid apps will not work on an iphone and vice versa w/o jailbreak?

Droid apps will not work.... Jailbroken or not. But does open it up to 3rd party devs... So you may see some droid "like" apps.

I wonder if there will be apps in the future that allow iPhone users to run apps for a droid.

I doubt it just because apples requirements are more strict. But you will always have people that write them for both platforms such as fring,skype..ect
