Data Question

I'm new to the iPhone and I had a question about a switch that I see under General/Network called Cellular Data. If I turn this switch off, does this disable all data coming to the phone but allow phone calls and SMS messages through? Or is the feature something else entirely?

you're correct data turns off but you still get call/SMS.
