i have a few sound files from my moto droid that i want to use on my iphone 4. they are in ogg format, and i understand i need to conver them to aiff. my phone is jailbroken and i dont think i will have a problem what that end of things, but i cannot for the life of me convert these files.

i have seen countless youtube videos on how to do this usint itunes, but for some crazy reason i cannot get the files to import into my itunes library. all the tutorials on youtube just show people dragging and dropping them into itunes...... why wont this work for me ? is there some setting in there i have have to check ?

What's an aiff file? If I'm not mistaken ogg files are video?

iPhones support QuickTime (mov) for video and mp3's for music. Ringtones are m4r...

its not video, its definatley sound. ogg is the file format that the notifications are in. aiff is an apple sound formatt.

.aiff = Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) is an audio file format standard used for storing sound data for personal computers and other electronic audio devices. ...

.ogg = Ogg is a free, open standard container format maintained by the Xiph.Org Foundation. The creators of the Ogg format claim that it is unrestricted by software patents and is designed to provide for efficient streaming and manipulation of high quality digital multimedia.

I don't think you really want to convert to AIFF. AIFF is uncompressed and OGG is compressed. Maybe try Apple Lossless instead. Or mp3. Dppoweramp for pc should do it or there is a few for Mac too but it's not coming to me.

the notifications have to be in aiff or the phone wont recognize them as notifications.

at least thats what i have been reading.

Ok sure I didn't realize what you were trying to do. Looks like you need to convert to AIFF and then just rename AIFF to CAF and replace the proper file. Max for Mac and DBPowerAmp for pc should do it.

Also I don't think you can put them on the phone with iTunes. You need some sort of iPhone file viewer and find the specific file and replace them. Not sure what to recommend I haven't used those programs in a while. For ringtones I think you can just drop em but this is different.

That I do know,

Open ssh from cydia and either wincp for PC or cyber duck for mac...

just free download and install Xiph QuickTime Components
then your itunes will accept .ogg files

if you also want to put .ogg to ipod, iphone, ipad, then you need to convert .ogg to itunes/ipod/iphone/ipad compatible format
