I currently have a smartphone not under contract. If I buy the iphone 4s and get it shipped to my house can I just sell it and keep using my current phone? Is there something on the phone etc. that would prevent me from doing this? I don't think its illegal since I payed for the phone. Just trying to find out all the info before hand. I don't want to sel it only to find out it will only work under my number etc..

Thanks for any advice

Sorry, but I don't get it!

You have a current iPhone that works for you.
You want to buy a 4S (full price?????) and sell it, while keeping your first phone as is.
So what's the deal? I don't see a problem here, unless I missed something. Did you, by chance, not explain yourself very well?

..

I think he means get a contract to get the phone and sell. It. Your answer depending on your company you have.

Sorry for any confusion. I'll try to explain it better.

I have a phone I like. I am not under a verizon contract so I can get the 4s for the contract price. I would then like to sell it. Can I sell it or is there something built into the phone that won't allow this.

Thx again

You can purchase a 4s under the contract price but you are going to sign into a 2 year contract and ETF applies here if you want to sell it at full price and get rid of the contract. But why would you want to do that. basically trying to rip someone off only equals to wasted time and effort..

Thx for the replies.

If I get the two year contract I have no plan to terminate, I would just continue under the old phone. Not sure why you consider it "ripping someone off? If I have a phone someone else wants and they don't want to pay full price seems fair to me. Of course no one is obliagted to buy it. If I could make a few bucks what's wrong with that?

Lots of people sell off there upgrades if happy with their current phone, not illegal and I'm not Ito debating the morals.

IMHO part of keeping your loyalty is to offer these 'free' upgrades, but rest assured the providers (like casino's) rarely loose, having covered the costs within the tariffs - or they would not do it.

I'd suggest do the maths, your at the end of contract, so you could reduce the monthly cost by going sim only. Now compute that over 24 months against the short term gains made from selling the ip4s :).

Also consider you might like another phone, say the galaxies 10.1, your going to be stuffed for 2 years if you take the ip4s, so don't act in haste is my best advice.

Ok explain the costs of you buying the phone vs someone else buying the phone vs the reduced cost you will sell it for? Approx costs will suffice. Your logic makes sense but I want to what profit you think you can make

Sage advice crowd pleaser!! Thx

iPhone 4s 16Gb Black. Cost $199. The same phone on ebay is selling between $525 and $580 as of this writing (each have mulitple bids) and neither of them have closed. For easy math the phone cost $200 and will sell for $600. Minus ebay/Paypal fees I should net $300. I was keeping the service anyway so nothing on that end would change...How's my math?

So if you go sim only, what are your savings projected over 24 months (and being free to swap) as opposed to continuing your current tariff and being tied in for 24 months?

Just seem your not adding up all the equations, I'm in the UK, and run a small Buisness so I can claim my phone against business costs, so in effect makes little difference to be sim only or 'free' upgrade.

I had finished my contract period and could go 'sim only' on the same plan saving £20 PCM or pay but £199 for the iphone4 16gb on same outgoings as before! for another 24 months commitment.

So 20 x 24 = £480 + £199 = £679 total cost for the phone.

so bought a 32gb for £420 and obviously from someone who sold on just like your planning to

Had I gone 'your' way I'd be the loosing party is what I'm saying, and trying to prevent you loosing out this way for a short term benefit :).

Not sure how to calculate any savings??? You've lost me. Contract or not I'm staying with verizon. My montly costs will remain the same whether I buy this phone or not or whether I am on a contract or not.

I showed you the workings, if you as you suggest your outgoings will remain thecsame, but you might save more money than you mak selling your newer iPhone.

1) Phone verizone ask the question, what lower cost tariff will they offer with no upgrade (just sim only) contract.

2) Deduct that from what your paying now.,

3) X 24 to know how much your 'free' iphone tariff i.e. your current tariff will cost you over 24 months, against changing your tariff down (NOT your provider) by going sim only.

4) add the initial cost of the phone to you.

I don't think lowering your bill by renewing the contract without taking an upgrade is an option to be honest.

Crowd Pleaser: What Tariff are you talking about? Are you saying that you pay more than having the data plan and regular cellular service if you take an upgrade? I.E. You are penalized for buying the phone for $199 vs full price? . The only thing I thought that the 2 year contract meant is that you had to stay with your carrier for 2 years and if you terminated the contract early, you paid an early termination fee. I think for the Iphone 4S it is $350.00 for ATT. Never heard of a Tariff Fee.
