Is it possible to share apps between idevices

Apple has setup a system in which multiple iOS devices are allowed to share the same iTunes account. The last documented version of the policy I read stated that up to ten devices could legally share one iTunes account. At present I have six on mine with no issues.

Now, it might be safe to assume they have monitoring software in place for people that decide to try and "game the system" by sharing their account illegally, but I have no direct proof of that at this time.
