Apple announced today that it has finally reached that milestone of 10 billion apps downloaded from the App Store. More than 160 million iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users worldwide have downloaded apps from the store, with the competition-winning 10 billionth app download going to Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, who bought Paper Glider. Gail will be awarded with a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card for winning the Countdown to 10 Billion Apps competition. That’s a lot of apps-worth! Here’s Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, talking about reaching that incredible 10 billion mark:

“With more than 10 billion apps downloaded in just two and a half years—a staggering seven billion apps in the last year alone—the App Store has surpassed our wildest dreams. The App Store has revolutionized how software is created, distributed, discovered and sold. While others try to copy the App Store, it continues to offer developers and customers the most innovative experience on the planet.”

Here’s to the next 10 billion!
