MacStories reminds us all today that July 10 is the iTunes App Store’s 3rd birthday. Yes, hard to believe, but it was just three years ago, on July 10 2008, that the App Store was first launch, at the same time as the iPhone OS 2.0 software. The next day, the iPhone 3G was released, with iOS 2.0, incorporating the App Store, pre-installed. MacStories takes us through the various milestones that the App Store has achieved in just three years. For example, just last week we learned that Apple had surpassed the milestone of 15 billion apps downloaded from the App Store, and just before that, it was announced that 500,000 apps are now available in the App Store (including 100,000 iPad apps). A lot of money made by Apple then, but also, as Apple is always keen to point out, a lot of money made by developers too, with MacStories quoting the most recent figure of more than $2.5 billion paid out by Apple to developers at the last count. What will another three years bring? One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be exciting finding out!
