9to5 Mac reports today that a proposed partnership between Apple and mega Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba could ensure that Apple Pay gets the chance to take off in a big way in the huge market that is China.
Tim Cook first hinted that Apple and Alibaba were in talks at last month’s WSJ Digital conference, and then on a recent trip to China, he said that it was “just a matter of time” before China was Apple’s biggest revenue-making territory.
And further adding to talk of an Apple and Alibaba business partnership, 9to5 Mac notes that Alibaba founder and CEO Jack Ma added yet more fuel to the fire by telling CNBC today that Alipay and Apple could eventually team up on a payments system, saying, “we’ve had great discussions, and I think both are interested.”
Ma also indicated that Apple and Alibaba’s business relationship could extend further than some sort of payment service, to take in hardware sales and cloud computing.
