After several previous reports of iPhones apparently spontaneously combusting over the past few weeks, MacRumors has a story about an iPhone 4, which ironically was owned by a firefighter, seeming to catch fire out of the blue for no reason at all. The story was initially reported on the East Brandywine Fire Company’s website, with the firefighter being based in the Pennsylvanian town of East Brandywine. According to the report, the phone caught fire when it was being charged via the USB connector. It then fell to the floor, setting the carpet on fire, and was swiftly thrown out of the window to prevent any more serious damage to property, or indeed life or limb. According to the story, “a large volume of smoke and a noxious smell” was witnessed emanating from the device. The phone has subsequently been sent to Apple’s Cupertino headquarters to enable Apple’s engineers to investigate what might have caused it to catch fire. Good job this didn’t happen at night when people were sleeping or it could have had very serious consequences.

poor iphone!

in cyprus where we get 45 degree heat waves all summer the iphone would burst into flames then as well easily.. iphones just hate the heat and just by having a flashlight on for 5 minutes you can really feel the heat and these people probably leave it under the sun for a very long time
