According to a story on Boy Genius Reports, an iPhone caused a very scary airplane incident at the end of an internal flight from Lismore to Sydney, Australia, when it suddenly started smoking and glowing red. The airline, Regional Express, has actually issued a press release about the incident, as well as a picture of the errant iPhone in question, in which it explains that the drama started after the plane had landed at Sydney, when an iPhone belonging to one of the passengers started billowing thick smoke and glowing red at the same time. “In accordance with company standard safety procedures, the flight attendant carried out recovery actions immediately and the red glow was extinguished successfully,” said the airline, adding, “All passengers and crew on board were unharmed.”

The incident, which of course could have been incredibly serious, especially if it happened in mid air, has now been reported to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for further investigation. Let’s hope they find out what caused it soon.
