I´m not sure if I ask this in the right part of the forum, and if people already asked the question, I apologize for doing it again.

I have an iPhone 5, currently running on iOS 8.1, jailbroken and done. I want to continue beeing jailbroken so I want to update to iOS 8.4 if that is possible. I do have the .ipsw-file.
So....can I do that?

Thanks

That's not possible.
Apple stopped signing iOS 8.4, you can't update to this version, even though you have the .ipsw-file. During the process of updating, iTunes connects to Apple servers, which make sure you install the right software. If you try to install a different iOS than the ones signed by Apple, you'll get an error, and won't be able to proceed.

The only software versions signed by Apple at the moment are 8.4.1 and 9. Afaik it's not possible to jailbreak both.

Apple stopped signing iOS 8.4 on August 23rd.

If you want to remain jailbroken you should stay on iOS 8.1 until a new jailbreak for iOS 8.4.1 or iOS 9 is released. At the present time we have no idea when a new jailbreak will be released.

Alright, just as I thought. Thanks to both of you; J.A and scifan57
