What does iPhone is disabled mean

It says Iphone is disabled, please connect to Itunes, what does this mean? ie If I were to connect to iTunes with my own account would it work?

Disabled means that you tried too many times to unlock the device with bad passcodes. The only way to get your phone working again is to restore in Recovery/DFU mode. There's no way of retrieving the data.
