The AP reports today that Wal-Mart’s warehouse outlet, Sam’s Club, will soon be selling the iPhone and iPad. Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, made the announcement at an investor meeting on Wednesday, when it said that the move to sell Apple’s two high profile devices was part of an overall expansion of Sam’s Club’s electronics and jewellery departments. AP reports that Sam’s Club is already doing very well for Wal-Mart, performing even better than US Walmart stores, with sales rising by 3.4 percent to $12.46 billion in the second quarter. The Sam’s Club stores are “membership” stores, where you must be a member to purchase goods, with most shoppers signing up for a year's membership, although it is also possible to become a temporary member for just one day if you want to make a purchase at the store.

The announcement comes one day after Wal-Mart confirmed the already much-leaked news that it would be stocking the iPad in 2,300 Walmart stores in the lead up to the holiday season.
