Cnet writes today about a new initiative from the Opus Hotel in Vancouver to hand out iPhones to its guests as a replacement for the standard hotel room phone. Guests will be free to take the phone away from their hotel room, and generally use it as if it were their own iPhone. The phone is pre-loaded with useful numbers for the various departments in the hotel, and its memory will be wiped after the guest checks out. Cnet says that one of the reasons for the Opus providing its guests with the iPhones is to encourage more visitors from the US by giving them a Canadian phone to use during their stay so that they can avoid hefty roaming fees on their own phones. Cnet says that the Opus obviously likes providing Apple devices for its guests to use, as it was previously reported as being the first hotel in Canada to offer its customers an iPad 2, kitted out with an iPad Virtual Concierge, in all its rooms.
