Using iPhone to deposit checks?

Chase Bank has an ad showing how by snapping a photo of a check, you can deposit it into your bank account. I am confused because when you usually deposit a check, you must endorse it by signing the check in front of a teller. How can this work? Also, what is done with the actual paper check? Don't you still have to appear at a bank to present the check to the teller?

They probably link your phone to your bank account so they know it's you taking the picture. Kind of like "electronic signatures" these days. You can probably dispose of the check afterwards since if deposited, the check will be worthless anyways
