On the eve of the joint Verizon Wireless /Apple event where they are expected to unveil the Verizon Wireless iPhone, The Wall Street Journal reports that Verizon will be offering unlimited data-use plans with the iPhone to its customers, according to its sources. As the WSJ points out, this would put clear blue water between AT&T and Verizon, with AT&T currently limiting the amount of data its customers can use in a month, mainly as an attempt to curb heavy iPhone usage which was pushing the AT&T network to its limit, leading to so many customer complaints about dropped calls and poor service. As far as the quality of Verizon’s service is concerned, Anthony J. Melone, Verizon’s chief technology officer, told the WSJ on Sunday that the company had invested strongly in its 3G network in 2010 to enable it to handle a rise in smartphone use, and Verizon also launched a new 4G network in December to help with the anticipated extra traffic.

“We added enormous capacity to the network in one fell swoop,” Melone told the WSJ. “It is there waiting for us to grow into it. That will help me tremendously with my 3G network.”

And, as the excitement about the forthcoming Verizon/Apple announcement mounts, some people are even seizing on the fact that tweets from Verizon’s official Twitter page are being made from an iPhone!
