How do you do this? A friend wants to restore back to a previous version.

That can only be done, as long as the software version he intends to install is still signed by Apple. At the moment, these are iOS 11.0.1, 11.0.2 and 11.0.3. If your friend wishes to revert to iOS 11 or 10x, that’s no longer possible.

Here are instructions that will help:

I presume "signed by Apple" means they still support the OS, yes?

This is too bad. I have been avoiding OS 11 and upwards for weeks now. I am afraid it will bring a lot of headaches, and I do not need anymore headaches with anything. (sigh)

When a new iOS is installed, the device connects to Apple’s servers, to make sure it’s the software made for this device. Apple is giving the “key” to the iPhone, so that it can install the iOS. This is what we know as “signed by Apple”. The keys are handed out to the hardware.

If Apple is not handing out those “keys” for one of the iOS versions any more, we say they “stop signing” it.
