Twitter has today announced a new feature that will enable users to create their own mini polls on Twitter. Here’s the official Twitter blog describing the new feature:

“If you want the public’s opinion on anything – what to name your dog, who will win tonight’s game, which election issue people care most about – there’s no better place to get answers than on Twitter. For poll creators, it’s a new way to engage with Twitter’s massive audience and understand exactly what people think. For those participating, it’s a very easy way to make your voice heard.”

While Twitter has previously enabled users to participate in polls by tweeting questions and tracking replies, counting hashtag votes, or simply asking for favouriting or retweeting to answer a specific question, users can now create two-choice polls directly from their compose box, with the poll remaining live for 24 hours. Users can vote on any poll, and how they voted will not be visible publicly.

Twitter is rolling out the feature over the next few days; as soon as you see the poll icon in the compose box, you’ll be able to start creating your own polls.
